Roja Poo – From the Depths of Suffering

Roja Poo was a dachshund found abandoned on the road, tied with a rough coconut rope.

Her ears were so badly infested with ticks that no one had ever before, or since then, seen such a bad case. There were multiple layers of ticks and no part of the skin was visible. She was not overly aggressive but given the trauma of abandonment, it took some time to win over her confidence.

It took multiple rounds of treatment with dusting powder, manual removal and lots and lots of patience to remove all the live ticks and debris of dead ticks and tissues. This process could not be hurried lest the ears get damaged and it took a month for her to recover from the trauma.

For us, aside from the joy that a recovery brings, one of the happiest parts of the journey is finding a home for the rescue, especially when they are adults.
Roja Poo found her home in Cuddalore with a doctor whose family includes her own children and a few other rescued dogs, each of whom adoption seemed unlikely.
